I want the kids to become storytellers and plantsmen. I want them to look at the world with awe not fear. And, through stories and nature I aim to strengthen their character.
1. Collected two main stories – one on the partition and the other one on innovation. 2. Made a motion-poster animation video of the partition story. 3. Test run the story among 60 students of Grade 6. They were positively receptive and the pre-discussion and post-discussion rounds revealed that their perceptions regarding religion widened after the story. The recall value of the story was also favorable when I took the follow-up a month later.
Education and Skill building
Firmed up the idea and rolled out in a small way
The idea to start 'Tinbox' originated during vipassana when one day I couldn't fathom how I will support my dad if something ever happened to my mom. From there, the idea built further to achieve educational and emotional objectives. We collect stories from senior citizens, convert it into an animation video, link it with NCERT curriculum and build discussion questions around it which helps the child grow her perspective and creativity. Once a month, we connect the elderly with the children to keep the process organic.
Local level impact: 1. Builds character-strengths in students. 2. Increases participation and understanding of the subject among students. 3. Makes senior citizens a little less lonely. Community level impact: 1. Connects learners with the learned. 2. Makes learning process more organic. Global level impact: 1. Creates a tolerant future generation of storytellers and plantsmen. 2. Records oral history.
In 5 years time, I hope to spread it across at least 6 cities - Ghaziabad, Delhi, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Mumbai and Pune, impacting minimum 50,000 private and government school students as well as 100 senior citizens.
